I assume you mean that you can't use PvE skills. And, well...duh. Because they are heroes then. That's the point.

point is all it is basically is a dress up barbie clone. xD a normal hero works just as good and its free! xD it looks cool but so does a costume.

It is better this way.
Imagine only merc heroes got pve-only skills and then they charged money people couldn't pay to get them.
Would be a big advantage granted by money.

And I only had half an hour of drunkenness to go! Actually, it doesn't bother me, because I did my legendary vanquisher while using drunk pve skills, so it's not like I was staring at a stopwatch and twiddling my thumbs the whole time. Got my alcohol for much cheaper than what it's going for now too.
None of this really helps with the last title I'm working on (treasure hunter) but it's pretty cool stuff anyway. Except for the whole paying-for-an-ingame-advantage thing that is the mercs. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come in GW2.

I hope this serves as a lesson for GW2: even if the devs say early on that something will "never happen" (seven heroes, LDOA + Leg. Survivor, etc), that doesn't mean diddly. All it means is it'll happen "when it'll make us the most money and we're desperate for it."
GG Anet...I hope you put that cash to good use. I'm just fine with my non-paid storage panes, non-paid character models, non-paid armor sets, and non-paid 7 heroes.

Why the hating again? you have nothing but benefits from this update. And no Anet is no charity organization, but they might as well be compared to other "free forever" games out there.

Well, after all that time, seven heroes.
I'm just mad I won't be able to experience it.

Theres absolutely no need at all to buy the mercenary pack if all you want is a more powerful hero team lol.
You already get 3 necros, 2 mesmers and 2 rits, and trust me, replacing the mesmers or rits with more necros will only make your team weaker than what 3 nec, 2 mes and 2 rits can do.

Embark Beach
Added the Embark Beach location to the Battle Isles.
Added new Zaishen Vanquish quests to Embark Beach.
|
Doubt that EB will serve the purpose it was intended for very well. So many people jumped all over the 7 heroes thing. And, for now, lots of people are spending time going for LDoA. The Zaishen Vanquish is a very nice touch!

Heroes
Mercenary Hero Slots are available for purchase from the In-Game Store and the NCsoft Store.
Added Mercenary Registrars to the Great Temple of Balthazar, Lion’s Arch, Kaineng Center, and Kamadan, Jewel of Istan.
Raised the party maximum on Heroes from three to seven.
|
I won't be doing the mercenary thing - I don't want to see my characters reduced to dumb AI. I think the current heroes will more than adequately fill the bill for anything in GW. The 7 heroes thing is another nail in the PUG coffin and will make most of GW stupid easy.

Pre-Searing Updates
New Pre-Searing quests are available from Lieutenant Langmar in Ascalon City.
Added Kimmes the Historian to Ascalon City.
Added the skills vendor Halbrik to Ascalon City.
|
Yay for the new quests! No more death leveling! The first quest was a reasonable challenge, not too tough, but not easy, either. Adding Kimmes is a nice touch for perma-pre characters. Halbrik? - Waste of time. Only has pre-searing skills which take very little time to get via quests.

Title Updates
The Drunkard title now awards points based upon the number and strength of drinks consumed.
The Survivor title now awards rank based upon the most experience gained between deaths.
|
Nice changes to both.
Quote:
UI Updates
Added an online status drop-down box to the character select screen.
Added a "Ready" status drop-down box to the party window.
|
I like the "Ready" status. Nice addition - but it's not that hard to press 1
Quote:
This build also introduced the minion UI.
|
MMs have been asking for something like this for a long time - hope they find it meets their needs.
Quote:
Heroes are now sorted by profession in selection dropdown menu and party search window.
|
Meh - I can take it or leave it. Personal preference would be to have them sorted alphabetically by name.

Can we explain the benefits we get ? Do you think people will be grouping to do that zaishen vanquish in 2-3 weeks after 90% of players will have done anything ?
I'm sorry but the only thing i see here is fast and usual not so good job :
- again some series of repetitive quests meant to be farmed ( pre searing ones , vanquish)
- again some paying stuff( which seemed to require more job than the rest)
- nothing about PvP
- change of survivor title is just again an other way to make people busy for few hours farming fronis
etc.. Only positive point is maybe the ability of using 7 heroes , but it still have some flaws...

the only thing i didn't understand is the mercenary hero.....u got one...two....three of u character as heros....i just they will not have pve skills or it's the end of the game....
plus considering few ppl group for doing storyline missions, dungeons etc...now with 7 heroes....i'm gonna try Duncan the Black with 7 heroes right now...for the epicness of the fail of this update...
-.-
Drunkard: i like it, but understand it's too easy now.....
Skill trainer in pre......enough said...
the rest is quite ok....

So you want an intire new campaign for free or something? This game doesn't even have a fee so be glad with what you get. Anet could have stopped updating after releasing EotN and making shure everything on the disk worked and that would have been perfectly fair.

This update its an insta-win for me. Many desirable features, like the minion interface, central point to go everywhere (embark beach) and last, but not least: 7.Glorious.Heroes.
The only bad thing is, IMHO, the price of mercenary heroes. 10 bucks each (or 45 for the 8 pack) is a bit overpriced. Cut that in half and Id be buiyng the 8 pack.
But a question remains: Why only 8 slots when we got 10 professions?

Asking for some PvP care instead of updates entirely principaly based on paying content is harsh ??
Anyway ,you will realize i was right in 2 or 3 weeks....

Congrats to Anet for a great patch. My wish is for one day to save/send/load party templates.
I absolutely love micro managing all 7 heroes while playing (esp. in HM), and tweaking my build constantly. It's like GW has evolved into a new game or belongs in a slightly different another genre

Love the update until I saw $45 price tag on the 8 mercs.
Really? Like I know you love overpricing stuff but honestly I could buy several decent games for that amount of money via steam. Yeah I'm aware that I don't actually need to buy it, but it just feels like I'm missing out on something. I know nothing is going to change and you will just ignore every complaint about the price because of course, you are going to get people to buy it, but it just makes me kind of sad, and fearful of what is going to happen in Guild Wars 2.
I want to support you guys, I really do. But when you pull something like this and try slip it under the radar it just kind of rubs me the wrong way. Who honestly believes that it is worth $45 for the whole thing? If you want donations thats fine, set up a nice little donation thing on the character select screen and I am 100% sure people would love to support you. But don't think you have to charge insane prices on items just to get something from us. The huge attraction to your game was the no online fees. Yes, it meant online fees per month, but these micro transactions aren't that different.
Can you even call it a micro transaction when it costs $45?

Count up how much 8 mercs would be if you bought them all with single merc slots, or even two packs of three and two of one? You see how it would add up to be more than $45?
It's a way to allow people to buy in bulk and save some money unlike if they bought one at a time. The pack is made cheaper than if you bought one at a time so if people wanted to, they could buy a big pack like that.
When you think about it like that, the $45 is perfectly fair imo

Honestly, I don't think $45 is that big of a deal. It's still significantly less than a brand new game would cost.
I would have gone for that myself, really, if not for the fact that I've got to shell out money for car repairs this week. I'll just have to remember to unequip the three I have if I decide to replace them with a different character.

You realise you got 10 heroes with EotN which costs $8.30 on Amazon? You get an entire game with that in addition to those 10 heroes. In no RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing way is $45 anything but greedy money grubbing. I hope this was all the work of the marketing department because I kinda liked John Stumme. I'd like to feel bad for him because he worked so hard to make something to cool only to see the marketing department use it to rape the wallets of the players who love and support the game.
Hell I don't even think EotN costs more than $45 from the ArenaNet in game store.
In no way is $45 even remotely close to a reasonably priced feature. They have the players by the balls and they know anyone who is still playing 6 years after the game is released is going to pay insane amounts for incredibly unreasonably priced features if they want them at all. It's a slap in the face to everyone else that they happen to give you a gameplay advantage in the process... or another marketing exploit.
